Christmas and New Years
2006-01-04
As usual, I have completely let down my adoring public waiting for any kind of communication via cards, letters (and blog) etc over Christmas and New Year. I have no excuse except for being lazy, maybe I'll try harder next year... hmmm maybe not.
Made a great haul this Christmas, got a massive hard drive (that almost sounds sexual) for my computer from Kate which is precisely what I wanted -- yes I am a huge geek, thanks for asking... cash and an assortment of other stuff.
New Years was fun, even though it was in Manchester. Went to a bar in Chorlton called (what else) "The Bar" where far too many drinks for my tiny Canadian liver were imbibed (more on this later) with friends, it was a blast. Not surprisingly, it rained almost the entire time... good ol' Manchester.
Got some great feedback on the play from people and will hopefully be getting some more from Kate's friend Ben who works in theatre in Berlin...
New Years Resolution: To stop drinking. Days without drinking: 4.
Thought I would start a section on the blog for Recent english observations (or REO's):
- In Canada you say "I'm going downTOWN to CITY Hall", in England they say "I'm going to TOWN hall in the CITY Centre".
- It is illegal to pull onto the shoulder on the highway ("motorway" in LimeySpeak™) and ask a cop for directions in England.
- The "@", "#" and the "~" are in different places on english keyboards. And what the hell is "¬" for?
- Harry Hill may be the most unfunny person on earth.
- Poor kids in developing countries be damned! Primark RULES!
- Mullets have made a staggering comeback (on girls!).
- Christmas cards are taken very seriously over here, EVERYBODY sends them (except me... will probably get less next year).
- You know those disgusting multicoloured licorice squares that your grandma couldn't give away in Canada? The English still eat them.
- Little Britain needs some new sketches/characters. It is also eerily similar to Kids in the Hall...
- Jamaican fruit cake is about a million times better than regular fruit cake.
- Scotch eggs are AWESOME. Black Pudding is also wonderful, until you find out what it is -- it makes haggis sound appetising.
- Root Beer is to the English what Marmite is to Canadians.
