English Justice system rant

I'm in a foul fucking mood today.

The past couple weeks, I've been struggling with finding things to moan about. The weather has been shit, but other than that I've been really enjoying my time in England. The job is still great, I've spent lots of time with friends I haven't seen for ages, footy is back on TV and my garden has been puking zucchinis out by the hundreds. Life is good.

And then, England caught me napping... (as it does)

On Wednesday some chav fuckwit shot an 11-year-old boy in Liverpool returning home from soccer practice in a random attack. Also, a woman who was attacked by chavs a couple weeks ago in Lancashire has died from her wounds today.

It got me thinking "Why is crime in this country so bad?" They have the same stiff gun laws Canada has, the cops are very good at catching crooks here, there is CCTV everywhere... what gives?"

And then the answer shows up on BBC's main page clear as day when; Some dirty fucking jovey avoids jail for raping kids.

I'm sorry, come again?

Fucking hell, being a jovey should be reason enough to go to jail! The judge let him go because apparently he's had some counselling. I guess he's just misunderstood, the poor fella. Oh look, the jovey church is standing behind him as well, isn't that nice? Well you wouldn't stand in front of him, wouldja?

The other reason I hear that violent criminals aren't going to jail is because the jails are full. Tell me again why you can't build some more?

In other news, one of my brother-in-law's friends' might go to jail on an assault charge because he punched a drunk who attacked him. Apparently there is plenty of room in Britain's jails for men who's only crime was defending themselves.

So you let violent criminals shirk jail time and punish people for defending themselves... hmmm... boy, this is a real mystery. *eyes roll back into skull*

What is wrong with this fucking country?

I tell ya, there are some great things about England, but it's justice system is certainly not one of them. The BBC has tons of pages asking the public what should be done about violent crime, but you only need to look across the ocean at your frozen ex-colony to find the answers.

It's simple. Put criminals in jail (build more if you have to!), give people the right to defend themselves and give the cops guns, billyclubs and the power to use both, it works for us.
